Last month, First Lady Michelle Obama announced a national goal to get America’s children healthier and to help them reach adulthood at a healthy weight. Her campaign is called Let’s Move and is designed to help families, schools, and communities provide children with simple tools to be more active, eat healthier, and make healthier choices. To accomplish this goal, Let’s Move has four objectives: To help parents make healthier choices for their families, to provide healthier foods in schools, to make healthy foods accessible and affordable, and to increase physical activity.
I am pleased that Michelle Obama has made the health of our nation, and especially our children, a priority. Obesity in this country is epidemic and is responsible for increasingly rising health care costs. This generation of children will be the first ever to not outlive their parents due to their unhealthy lifestyle.
